The Historic Mary Boyce Temple House

This page is dedicated to providing the public with an ever-changing and updated site on the progress of the Temple House
renovation/reconstruction/preservation project occurring on the very busy corner of Henley Street and W. Hill Avenue in
Downtown Knoxville Tennessee. We will also announce upcoming events such as Art Exhitions, poetry readings, and various
other shows as we feel appropriate. We intend to make the Temple House and its formerly attached duplex two separate
single family homes upon completion but with an artistic twist. Hopefully the home will also, eventually serve as a mini-mecca
for artists of all sorts for a venue for expression from time to time (usually First Fridays). Since the house is under construction
these events will be held to a minimum for safety reasons.

Along the way we’ll update the site with pictures of first the clean up, then the massive demolition of years of bastardization into decades of low rent apartments, then updating of the property as it’s completed. Ultimately one should be able to view this process in all it’s glory, gore, and detail and learn a bit about the houses history along its path to a home with dignity once again. The original owners of the house were well to do upwardly mobile folks who were the mainstay of our community when they lived here. Hopefully we’ll make them and Knoxville proud of the last free standing private residence in all of downtown Knoxville.

If you want to help the project...

All proceeds from the sale of Brian Pittman's Cathedral Drawings will help fund the full restoration of the Temple House. All current work is available at Hanson Gallery in Knoxville TN.
